The Gator's hour meter
Hours, not miles. Turn the key on and photograph the reading on the dash.
XUV 4WD and diff lock
On an XUV the drivetrain carries the value. Does 4WD go in? Does the diff lock hold? Tell us now and it's in the figure before we arrive.
Gator cab and doors
Cabs sell. A complete one lifts the price most in autumn, and a roof with half doors is still worth mentioning.
State of the cargo box
Power lift or manual, and the liner. Rot through the floor of the box costs more than scraped sides.
Deere dealer stamps and receipts
Stamped book? Your own receipts? Both help, and so does knowing when the belt and fluids were last changed.
Winches and flashing beacons
Leave the winch or beacon fitted. It goes into the offer with the Gator.
The Gator ranges, in plain English
The first step to sell your John Deere Gator is pinning down the range. Look for the decal on the side of the cargo box or on the bonnet. Faded? Send a shot of the dash and one of the whole machine, and we'll identify it.
Gator XUV: the farm and shoot workhorse
It's the Gator we're offered most: a petrol or diesel 4x4 with a diff lock and a tipping box. They run from older 620i and 850D machines to current three-cylinder models, and the M versions are the larger, cab-ready ones. Diesel owners can go straight to our page on the diesel Gator XUV 865M and 855D, and petrol owners to the one on the petrol Gator XUV 835M and 825i.
Gator HPX: the site and nursery machine
Plainer and tougher than an XUV. The HPX615E and HPX815E mostly live on building sites and in nurseries. Most have been worked hard. Hours and the state of the box carry the price.
Gator TX and TX Turf: golf and grounds
Small two-wheel-drive runabouts, mostly from golf courses. We'll take one or several from the same site. Selling for a club or company? Say so on the form and we'll list the documents we need.
Electric Gator TE: quiet grounds work
Bought for silent running around parks. The batteries are most of its value. Tell us their age, and whether the charger comes too.
No number plate on your Gator? That's normal
Farm Gators usually spend their whole lives off the road, so most were never registered. We buy it on the dealer invoice or a receipt from whoever sold it to you. Before any money moves we check your ID and read the VIN off the chassis to compare with it. Registered ones come with a V5C.
Paperwork gone missing? Get in touch anyway. The Deere dealer that supplied it may still have records, and a finance settlement letter shows ownership too. If we can't be satisfied a Gator is yours, we walk away.
Gators that have stopped in the barn
A Gator that's sat in the barn since the battery died is still worth something to us, and so is one that was parked up when the belt started slipping. Our trailer carries a winch for exactly this. Yes, and at no charge anywhere in Kent, London and the South East, with UK-wide collection by arrangement. We back the trailer into the yard or meet you at a gateway, whichever the ground allows.
